VELOCITY186 CHILD SAFETY & ONLINE SAFEGUARDING POLICY

Scope: This policy applies to all in-person and digital elements of Velocity186 programmes, including camps, clinics, sessions, the online platform and mobile app.

1. OUR COMMITMENT
At Velocity186, the safety, welfare, and wellbeing of all children and young people we work with, whether in person or via the Platform, is our highest priority. We are committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for every participant.
This policy applies to:
• In-person activities (sessions, camps, experiences)
• Online platform interactions (video uploads, leaderboards, feedback)
• Digital communications (notifications, messaging, community areas)

2. SAFEGUARDING PRINCIPLES
We operate under these core principles:
• Child-centred approach: The welfare of the child is paramount.
• Zero tolerance: Any form of abuse, discrimination or harmful behaviour is unacceptable.
• Safe environment: All activities, physical or digital, prioritise participant safety.
• Respect & dignity: All participants, parents and staff participate in a respectful environment.
• Transparency & accountability: Clear reporting and response procedures exist for concerns.

3. DIGITAL SAFETY IN THE PLATFORM & APP
Velocity’s digital environment includes features such as:
• Skill Builder video uploads
• Global and club leaderboards
• Account profiles and display names
• Messaging/notifications controlled by parents
To protect children online:

a) Privacy settings by default
• Players are not publicly visible unless a parent chooses a display option (full name, nickname, or anonymous).
• Contact details are never displayed publicly.

b) Safe video upload use
• Video submissions are private and only visible to authorised reviewers.
• Coaches never share or publish videos externally without explicit parental consent.
• Video submissions on the skill builder are fully deleted from our system after coaches review • Inappropriate uploads will be removed immediately.

c) Moderation & review process
• All digital content is reviewed by trained personnel.
• Any content raising safety concerns triggers escalation to the designated safeguarding lead.

d) Online risk awareness
We recognise that online interactions pose risks such as exposure to harmful content or inappropriate communication. We proactively:
• Advise parents about online safety expectations.
• Provide guidance on account supervision.
• Encourage reporting of digital concerns.

4. EXPECTATIONS FOR PARTICIPANTS & FAMILIES
Parents/guardians agree to:
• Supervise their child’s use of the Platform and app.
• Choose appropriate display name settings.
• Ensure content uploaded is suitable and football-related.
• Report any concerns about online interactions or content.
In doing so, parents help maintain a safe and positive environment for all.

5. EXPECTATIONS FOR STAFF & COACHES
Velocity personnel:
• Are trained in child protection and online safeguarding best practices.
• Use professional accounts for any digital communication with participants.
• Do not communicate with children using personal social media accounts.
• Monitor digital interactions for signs of misuse or risk.
Coaches will remove digital content that does not comply with safe practice guidelines.

6. REPORTING & SUPPORT
If a concern arises — whether physical or online — we encourage:
• Participants
• Parents/guardians
• Staff

To report it to the designated Safeguarding Officer immediately.
A clear reporting chain ensures:
• Prompt response
• Documentation and follow-up
• Referral to appropriate authorities if required

7. TRAINING & REVIEW
Velocity will:
• Regularly train staff on safeguarding and online risks.
• Review digital safety policies at least annually.
• Update practice in line with statutory guidance and good practice internationally (GDPR + sports safeguarding standards).

8. PRIVACY, DATA PROTECTION & SAFEGUARDING
Our Privacy Policy and GDPR compliance frameworks underpin this policy. Personal data, physical or digital, is handled securely, with parental access, correction and deletion rights clearly defined.
This includes special care for children’s data and minimising data exposure in digital environments.
